Shinola Launches Rambler Tachymeter Chronographs

Detroit-based Shinola has launched its first chronograph watch with a tachymeter scale, called the Shinola Rambler Tachymeter.
The watch is inspired, Shinola says, by American racecar driver Craig Breedlove, the first man to break the 400-, 500-, and 600-MPH land speed records on wheels. It measures 44 mm in diameter and is equipped with a chronograph function which, when used with the tachymeter scale on the bezel, enables the wearer to accurately measure speed and distance in terms of time — a useful asset in auto racing.

The dial has a classic bicompax design, with large Arabic numerals and snailed chronograph subdials at 3 o’lock and 9 o’clock. Like all Shinola watches, the Rambler Tachymeter and its quartz movement are assembled at Shinola’s factory in Detroit and is outfitted with a screw-down crown and a durable sapphire crystal and comes with a lifetime guarantee.

The watches, which will be available for sale online and at Shinola retail stores today, include a version with a titanium case and bracelet, called the Rambler 600 (limited to 1,000 pieces — 500 launching now and 500 later this year — and priced at $1,325) and three with stainless steel cases in a range of dial colors, top ring colors, and strap options (priced from $825 to $875).
